Decluttering and “In Fashion”?

Decluttering and “In Fashion”?

I did two very enjoyable Declutter Therapy™ talks at the weekend and one question that came up was around how current fashion should influence our decision-making when decluttering our wardrobes. It’s a great question and one I get asked a lot.

As many of you know, although I love style I have little interest in “fashion” as such. Being told that we should all be wearing the same item regardless of whether it’s appropriate for our age, lifestyle, climate, body shape and size, colouring, taste and signature style is simply madness to me! Driven by a multi-billion dollar industry, fashion is quite fickle and subjective and three current magazines could offer three very different (and convincing) arguments as to why a particular item is “on trend” or “out of style”. This can cause many of to feel a bit confused and often can result in us putting our decluttering on the longest finger.

Aside from the very practical considerations on whether an items works for your personal requirements, I would ignore the fashionistas’ “must-have” lists and simply ask myself if the item makes me feel stylish and confident (as everything in your wardrobe should). I hope that helps!
